What Makes A Family Begins Filming

According to Variety and Canada's National Post, What Makes A Family starring Brooke Shields began filming in Toronto last week. Tony Award winner Cherry Jones (The Heiress) plays Shields' companion in the film, and Whoopi Goldberg portrays Shields' attorney. Maggie Greenwald directs the TV movie, which she adapted from Robert Freedman and John Pielmeier's original screenplay. The film is now scheduled to premiere on the Lifetime cable network in January 2001. (8/1/00)

Lifetime Television announced on April 18 that What Makes a Family is being executive-produced by Barbra Streisand & Cis Corman (Barwood Films), Whoopi Goldberg, and Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Storyline Entertainment). The project is an original TV movie based on the true story of a lesbian who fights her deceased partner's parents for custody of their child, conceived through artificial insemination. Goldberg will play a supporting role in the film, which is scheduled to premiere during the first quarter of 2001. (5/7/00)
